Woodland mulch and ornamental bark
The usage of landscape bark chippings and mulch is a budget and maintenance-friendly way to cover unattractive soil. They are a decorative finish to borders, flower beds and other planted areas. Besides the fact that bark and mulch have an aesthetic aspect, they are also suitable for several other functional applications in the garden. We supply two types of decorative bark:
- Woodland mulch
- Ornamental bark chippings
What is woodland mulch?
Mulch is a layer of material applied to the surface of an area of soil. Woodland mulch is an effective and economical option for decoratively mulching your outdoor space: it gives your flower beds an attractive update and adds protection, as well as nutrients to soil areas. Its purpose is to conserve moisture, to improve the fertility and health of the soil, to reduce weed growth, to deter some pests and to enhance the visual appeal of a large area. The mulch made from composted wood chip, produced from a mix of softwood and hardwood.
How to use woodland mulch?
Our woodland mulch is composted for at least six weeks to remove any traces of green. This ensures that the mulch is of consistent quality. Mulch is best applied to warm, moist, but also weeded soil. Spring and autumn are the most suitable seasons since winters are too cold and summers are to dry. Apply woodland mulch evenly to a depth of around 5 centimetres thick. This way, it reduces unnecessary evaporation from the soil surface. Single trees and specimen shrubs are best mulched to the radius of the canopy.
What is ornamental bark?
Ornamental bark chippings are a more decorative bark chip, ideal for decorative areas that don't need a composted mulch material. They are decorative and look good as a border of bark mulch covering, offering protection from frost and helping to retain moisture. As the bark chips decompose, they re-vitalise the soil structure, permeability, bioactivity, and nutrient availability which are all important for maintaining healthy plants. The bark is sourced from mixed conifer with a large amount of spruce and pine. Ornamental bark is best suited for landscaping projects where budget is key, but a decorative product is much appreciated.
How to use ornamental bark?
Bark can be applied at any time of year, as long as the soil is moist. A layer of ornamental bark should be at least 5 centimetres thick to reduce unnecessary evaporation from the soil surface.
