Protecting Your Garden: The Benefits of Galvanised Chicken Wire Fencing

Keeping pests away from your garden and allowing your plants to bloom and grow requires a little planning and some security measures. Galvanised wire mesh or galvanised chicken wire is a great choice for protecting your garden and giving your plants the chance to thrive.

What is galvanised wire mesh?

Galvanised wire mesh is made from steel and is a highly durable, lightweight material for outdoor use. It’s easy to cut to size and you can bend it to cover and surround your plants or new seedlings to help ensure they have the chance to grow.

As a metal product you need to be careful when using chicken wire, cutting it using wire cutters or tin snips to get it to the right size. The edges can be quite sharp so be sure to fold and press them down to avoid any risk of cuts. To give your plants the best chance of survival, you should combine your choice of fencing or protective mesh with a garden weed membrane which will protect them from weed growth from below. Let’s look in more detail at the benefits of galvanised wire mesh for your garden.

1. Unparalleled durability

Galvanised wire fencing is highly durable and long-lasting. The galvanisation of the wire means it is coated in a protective layer of zine which enhances the resistance of the fence. This minimises both the impact of rust and corrosion. Galvanised steel is an ideal material for outdoor use as you can never be sure exactly which way the weather will turn next.

2. Easy maintenance

Galvanised chicken wire is easy to maintain and doesn’t require high levels of maintenance or attention such as painting or treating. You should be able to maintain your mesh with minimal interference and very little upkeep.

3. Budget-friendly

You can buy galvanised wire by the metre, in large rolls, and you can store it away, so you’ve got some spare ready if you do need to repair or replace. Rolls of chicken wire are comparatively affordable when considered against other fencing and protection options for your garden.

4. Versatile usage

While you may be buying galvanised wire to use for fencing or around your plants, it can also be used in other ways. You can use on hutches for pets, to mark out property boundaries or wherever you need to separate off areas. The versatile nature of this product makes it a great addition to your garden toolkit.

You can find a range of different chicken wire products in our range, along with many other garden accessories, ensuring you are fully kitted out for the height of the gardening season.
